Seat Belt Checks

Updated: Tue 7:06 AM, Nov 26, 2002

Authorities statewide will also be pulling over any cars in which children aren't buckled up. That offense carries a minimum $56 fine.

The fine for an adult not wearing a seat belt in the front seat is $17, in addition to fines for whatever offense the car was stopped for in the first place.

Last year 565 people died in crashes on Colorado roads and 354 of them were not wearing seat belts.

Officials estimate that half of them would have survived their accidents had they buckled up.
