They've reached speeds of more than 80 miles per hour, and it's happening on main drags in colorado springs, like Academy and Powers. Police say street racing is growing.

Academy is one of the popular routes, often refered to as the loop in the racing community. With the weather getting warmer, police say more and more street racers are hitting the roads.

So, today, law enforcement spoke with car racers to get the word out that this summer Operation Dragnet will be underway. That will entail about 15-20 officers undercover trying to break up races.

As part of the program, they'll be ticketing street racers and cars breaking noise violations. They say they might even ticket people who are just spectators.
