A strong cold front will move through Southern Colorado today. It will bring much colder temperatures (especially in the afternoon), strong wind, a few rain/snow showers, and blowing dust to Southern Colorado. Light snow accumulations and poor visibility will be possible for a time this afternoon and evening north of Colorado Springs and south/southwest of Pueblo. Blowing dust will be mostly likely on the Eastern Plains, where a Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect. Bottom-line, your Tuesday will feel (and look) a lot different than the past two days. Be prepared...
Officials say a beaver dam helped prevent an oil spill from getting to far into the Arkansas River near Florence.
Environmental Protection Agency spokesman Ted Linnert says a pool of oil 50-feet long, 20-feet wide and as much as 18-inches deep was stopped behind the structure of sticks and logs on Oak Creek.
Some beavers and muskrats were killed.
The oil spill was estimated at up to 200 gallons. It leaked from a tank owned by Fremont Paving and Redi-Mix of Canon City.
