Statewide Smoking Ban

The House tentatively approved a bill Tuesday that would ban smoking in public places.

State lawmakers approved the measure after agreeing to add all bars to the list of places where smoking would be banned.

Republican Representative Mark Larson of Cortez says smokers have no right to hurt others.

Larson says the issue isn't about what you do to yourself -- it's about what you do to others.

Opponents say the bill intrudes on the rights of property owners and the freedom of citizens to choose.

The bill must pass the House again before heading back to the Senate, which already passed a less restrictive version of the measure.

The bill exempts the smoking lounge at Denver International Airport, casinos and race tracks outside the eating areas, bingo parlors and cigar bars.
