Colorado Springs won't be getting a new downtown convention center anytime soon.
Supporters of a new center told the City Council yesterday that residents essentially voted no on the project when they approved a ballot measure that restricts the city's ability to pay for and build a convention center.
The center was supposed to be built in southwest downtown, and delaying the project could affect the redevelopment of the area.
It also raises questions about the future of the U-S Olympic Committee, which is based in Colorado Springs. The agency was considering being a part of the project -- and now community leaders are fearful the committee will leave for a larger city.
