(Greeley-AP) -- Swift and Company resumed slaughter operations at a Greeley plant that was closed last week because of recurring fecal contamination problems.
USDA spokesman Steven Cohen did not disclose details of the changes Swift and Company proposed to correct the problems but said inspectors decided the plan was potentially effective.
The company had been working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on a prevention plan since federal inspectors left the former ConAgra Beef plant Friday, after repeatedly finding manure on carcasses.
Slaughterhouses cannot process meat without federal inspectors on duty.
The Greeley plant processes about 1.3 million cattle annually and employs about 2,500 people.
