High Fire Danger Today

Another Messy Commute

Rain, sleet, snow and fog have combined with cold temperatures to create a dangerous mix of weather across much of Colorado.

Colorado Springs Police and State Patrol were on Accident Alert Friday morning. Icy spots have caused numerous accidents in the Pikes Peak region.

The spring storm has forced authorities to shut down roadways, and led some schools to close or delay the start of classes to the North. Estes Park has received the most snow, with at least nine inches reported, and students there have the day off.

The poor weather triggered accidents before and during the morning rush hour in and around the Colorado Springs and Denver metro areas.

One section of I-25 stretching for several miles is being described as "littered with crashes" -- while motorists say a busy intersection in Aurora is a "skating rink."

The number and extent of injuries is not immediately available.

A ten-car pileup near I-25 and Auraria Parkway sent a Denver police officer to a hospital with minor injuries.

He's been treated and released.
