15-Year-Old Robbery Victim Recounts Attack

Updated: Tue 10:57 PM, Jan 08, 2013

The courageous girl, Maya Kochman, 15, told 11 News that she's not really scared anymore, just a little banged up and sore. She quickly adds that she still can't really believe this all happened to her.

Eleven staples and stitches were needed to patch up 15-year-old Maya. We sat in the living room with her mom Linda, as Maya recounts her Monday morning. She said she was in bed when she heard a yelp from her dog downstairs. When she went to check it out, she came face to face with the robber.

"I had turned around and he had pointed a gun to my face," Maya said.

By this time, the security alarm was going off, the company notified Linda. Seconds later, Maya called and she rushed home.

"I came home and she was just covered in blood and they had, I guess, just beat her. (The robber) had beaten her over the head repeatedly with a gun," Linda recalled.

"And I started saying ‘please stop,’ he said ‘quit crying, quit trying to run’ and I opened up the door and flung it open and he pulled me back by my hair and ripped me down," Maya told us.

The suspect tried to make Maya turn off the alarm system, but she didn't know how.

"He started panicking," Maya said.

The robber quickly took off but got away with their flat screen and Playstation.

Maya says all things considered, she's lucky.

"I've thought about it multiple times and I’m so grateful that all he did was just hit me," Maya said.

If that wasn't bad enough the Kochman's told us their car was stolen overnight or early Tuesday morning.

It's an older black Honda Civic, with a sticker on the back window of a sun and moon. Linda said they just put on new tires and rims.

Both Linda and Maya hope that someone out there will know who may be responsible for either of these crimes.

This break-in happened near Airport and Chelton in Colorado Springs. That robbery suspect is described as a 17-18 year old Hispanic man. Maya recalls he was wearing an orange ski mask, but could see bushy eyebrows, and had a slight accent.

If you have any information about what happened, you're asked to call Crimestoppers 634-STOP.
