State lawmakers are concerned about the shortage of National Guard members. Several are on overseas missions, leaving behind depleted units.

The senate is backing a bill to increase recruitment. Guard members who get others to join would get a $200 bonus under the plan.

Several lawmakers say Colorado doesn't have enough Guardsmen to protect the state, in the event of natural disasters or homeland security emergencies.
