A Pueblo father will face criminal charges in connection with an accidental shooting that left his daughter dead.
The Tenth Judicial District Attorney's Office says Ruben Arellano will be charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Nine-year-old Julia Arellano found an unloaded .22-caliber handgun underneath her father's bedroom dresser March 14th, then located the magazine and assembled the weapon.
The gun fired accidentally while Julia's six-year-old brother was trying to get it away from her.
The children's father had been convicted of a felony drug offense in 1988 making it illegal under Colorado law for him to have firearms in the house.
Arellano could face three years in prison if convicted.
