You can expect more cloud cover and cooler temperatures today. By later this afternoon, rain showers will develop across the Pikes Peak Region and slowly drift southward. These rain showers will quickly change to snow at higher elevations, and accumulations will be likely. At lower elevations, snow accumulation does not appear to be a big deal. Forecast details can be found under the "Weather" tab.
The numbers aren't in yet on just how much money the city of Colorado Springs spent on snow removal. That's because for the city, the snow event isn't over.
The event begins before the first flake falls. When conditions are right, crews put down anti-icing material. Then, the snow falls, and crews remove the snow. After the snow is gone, they pick up the anti skid material off the streets.
As far as budgeting enough money, the Streets Division manager says, snow removal is a priority. Other street projects may have to wait.
The cost of a "snow event" can range from $11,000 - $900,000.
