Autism In Colorado

Autism might become a reportable health condition in some Colorado counties. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment wants to begin tracking the condition in February. The department currently has no statistics on autism cases. The tracking would take place only in the Denver metro area. Doctor Lisa Miller says limited resources prevent the study from including other areas of the state. She's the head of the state agency that would compile the statistics. Still, compiling data in one geographic area will be important because it could lead to information about the condition's causes and to changes in services for autistic children. Autism is a developmental disorder that can include difficulties in communication and social interaction.
