Owens Calls for More Cuts

By: Associated Press
Updated: Wed 8:06 AM, Nov 13, 2002

Gov. Owens says he is asking most state agencies to slash another six percent from spending next year. He also wants state employees to delay their payday to cope with the state's revenue shortfall.

Owens says state government, like many families this year, will have to tighten its belt. He presented his proposed budget for the next fiscal year Tuesday.

The proposed $13 billion budget will be about $150 million less than last year's budget after lawmakers finish making about $550 million in cuts, the first time that has happened in more than a decade.

Owens said he will spell out details of the cuts later.
