State Schools Losing Qualified Librarians

About a third of Colorado's 1,400 schools have no librarian.

Nearly half of the nation's 125,000 fully certified librarians are expected to retire in the next 12 years.

Educators say school librarians help raise student achievement. A study by the state Department of Education shows that the more hours elementary and middle schools have a trained librarian, the higher the reading scores on the annual C-SAP exam.
