A teenager was able to fight off her would-be kidnapper as he tried to pull her into his van.
Police say she then ran more than a mile to her school, where she reported the attempted abduction. The suspect, however, was able to get away from the area before officers could find him.
The attempted kidnapping happened Wednesday morning in Aurora. Officers say that the 14-year-old victim was walking to school around 8:30 a.m. when the suspect pulled up alongside her in a white van, then opened the sliding door and tried to drag her inside.
“Fortunately this girl fought off her attacker and was able to get away,” Aurora Police Sgt. Chris Amsler told sister station KCNC.
The Aurora Police Department released a sketch of the suspect Thursday night, and hope that someone in the public might recognize him.
The suspect is described as an early-20s Hispanic male, about 5-foot-4 with a heavy build. He reportedly has a scar near his left eyebrow and wears his hair short and cropped. Police say he was wearing a black and puffy winter jacket and navy blue or gray shorts at the time of the kidnapping attempt.
The attempted abduction happened around East 11th Avenue and North Ursula Street in Aurora.
