A 28-year-old Minnesota man died Saturday, in a skiing accident at Vail Mountain. The Eagle County coroner says Jacob Vanvalkenburg died of a neck injury after falling.
The resort says he was skiing on an expert run known as Blue Ox just before 10 A.M., but no one witnessed the fall. Ski Patrol responded and the man was taken to Vail Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The resort says the man was NOT wearing a helmet.
At least six people have now died at Colorado ski resorts this season. Three snowboarders died after colliding with trees at Vail, Breckenridge and Winter Park. A 13-year-old ski racer died at Vail in a collision with a resort snowmobile. And another man died of a seizure disorder while snowboarding at Vail.
