Colorado Governor Bill Owens has won a second term on his record of tax cuts and education reform as he defeated Democratic businessman Rollie Heath.

Heath had accused Owens of failing to deal with the state's revenue shortfall and promoting his ambitious plan to kickstart the economy.

Dan Wessels -- a 42-year-old security analyst who voted in Lakewood -- says the governor has done a good job. But 62-year-old Lois Hicks of Denver was critical of Owens' education reform. Owens says now is not the time for the state to be relax -- and he says his coming goals will include affordable health care coverage as well as improving the state's job picture.

State Treasurer Mike Coffman easily won re-election -- and that has added luster to his reputation as a rising Republican leader. His main opposition came from Democratic State Senator Terry Phillips of Louisville and political observers say Coffman's name will appear on ballots in future elections too. Under Colorado's term-limit law -- he cannot run again for treasurer -- so he will have to seek another office in 2006 to keep climbing the political ladder.

Republican Donetta Davidson also won re-election as secretary of
state. She outpolled Democratic challenger Anthony Martinez in a
rematch of their 2000 race to complete the term of the late Vikki
Buckley.

Voters also returned incumbent state Attorney General Ken Salazar to office.
