A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. Car accidents involving deer and elk in Colorado are on the rise.
Between 1993 and 2002, there has been a 224 percent increase of such accidents.
The Colorado Department of Transportation is now installing more than 1400 reflectors along Highway 40 near Craig in Northern Colorado.
On the Western Slope, 2 electronic warning signs will be set between Montrose and Ridgeway to slow down motorists on Highway 550.
Officials will study the project for 3 years to decide whether to expand it to other areas.
