A tense day ends happily for one Colorado Springs family. A young girl reported kidnapped is safely back home.

Police were looking for 16-year-old Monique Navajo. Friends told them she was abducted late last night. Police issued an amber alert Monday morning, because they had reason to believe she was in some real danger.

When she turned up, police first took Monique to her home to talk with her and her family. They then moved the interview downtown, but here's the story they heard before the amber alert hit the air and emergency highway signs. A young man identified by police as Monique's boyfriend tells authorities the two of them were parked in a Colorado Springs King Soopers parking lot a little after midnight. He claims he was talking to a friend in another car when a man carrying a gun threatened them with it. He says he jumped in with his friend, who took off as the gunman started shooting. That man apparently got in to the car with Monique and drove away, leading her boyfriend and his buddy on a chase down Drennan Road before getting away.

Monique turned up safe at home around 5:30 Monday evening. No official word about the car that reportedly disappeared with all of this.
It's a black, four door Nissan Altima, license plates 885 KXO. The suspected thief is described as a black man about 18 years old, seen wearing a long sleeve sweatshirt and blue baseball cap.

The investigation into Monique's disappearance is still underway.
