A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. Another 100 or so Fort Carson-based soldiers were set to leave Colorado starting Thursday in a deployment to the U.S. Central Command's area of responsibility.
The troops are part of the 571st Medical Company-Air Ambulance.
Fort Carson officials would not release the exact times or location of the unit's departure because of security concerns.
The 571st provides Corps level medical evacuation support during deployments, and transports emergency personnel, equipment and supplies to areas in need.
It's not known where, or how long, the troops will be deployed.
