A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. A Colorado Springs mother and her grown son are doing well, despite having to jump out of a second-story window to escape an apartment fire.
The blaze broke out at a four-plex about 8:30 Tuesday evening.
Authorities say the building was completely engulfed in flames by the time the first crews arrived, forcing dozens of firefighters to battle the blaze from outside.
Some 60 firefighters responded to the scene after three dispatches.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Damage is estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
