Moderate snow continues to fall for some areas of northern El Paso and Teller Counties, accumulating in the grass and yards. Meanwhile, in the plains and along the southern I-25 stretch, light rain/snow mix continues. Take it slow on the roadways - due to VERY strong winds, we are seeing blowing dirt and snow (depending on the region), which is tremendously reducing visibility. After icy weather created a power outage today, the lights are coming back on, slowly.
The outage affects about 2,000 customers of Mountain View Electric along Highway 24, from Black Forest to Limon.
A family in falcon celebrated a birthday party by candlelight and firelight, as guests waited for the lights to come on. Ice has caused several power lines to snap.
Mountain View Electric has crews working on the lines, starting in Black Forest and moving east.
