A woman of courage and some call her a "hero".
Specialist Latoya Lucas is stationed at Fort Carson.
She served in Iraq for only 3 months when she was attacked by enemy fire.
Her injuries were life threatening, including pelvic fractures and intestinal damage.
But Specialist Lucas fought the odds and survived. With a second chance at life, she says she wears her purple heart proudly.
"It means a lot. It's a medal no soldier goes to war, looks forward to get it, but once earned, it's an honor to have it... to wear it."
