Stellar Work

A new satellite will join the heavens this summer... this one built by Air Force Academy Cadets.

During a two-semester, senior level course at the Academy, Cadets designed and built a satellite that will go into orbit.

The satellite called "Falcon-SAT 2" will study space plasma and its effects on satellite communications.

Falcon-SAT 2 was supposed to be launched on a space shuttle mission in 2003. But shuttle flights were suspended after the Columbia disaster and Falcon-SAT 2 has been sitting on the shelf ever since.

It will now be launched by a private rocket in the South Pacific sometime this summer.
