Corrections Officer Remembered

Updated: Sat 9:31 PM, Oct 19, 2002

The parents of a 23-year-old prison supervisor beaten to death yesterday are remembering him as a God-fearing man who was proud to be a corrections officer. Eric Autobee suffered severe head injuries in the attack at the Limon Correctional Facility. He was pronounced dead about 12:30 p-m after being flown to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood. Colorado Department of Corrections spokeswoman Alison Morgan says 35-year-old Edward Montour clubbed Autobee in the back of the head with a kitchen utensil about 9:30 a-m. Montour is serving a life prison sentence with no possibility for parole in the murder of his 11-week-old daughter, Taylor, in Colorado Springs. He was sentenced in August 1998. Autobee was a native of Pueblo. He had worked at the prison for 18 months. Autobee is the first corrections officer allegedly killed by an inmate in Colorado since 1929.
