(Denver-AP) – U.S. District Judge Richard Matsch, who presided over the Oklahoma City bombing trials, is recovering from surgery to remove a malignant tumor from his stomach.

A spokeswoman at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center says Matsch is in good condition.

Matsch had a liver transplant last year by the same surgeon.

The surgery was not related to the transplant and doctors say they expect Matsch to make a complete recovery.

The 72-year-old Matsch presided over the trials of Timothy McVeigh and co-defendant Terry Nichols in U.S. District Court in Denver in 1997.

McVeigh was convicted of murder and conspiracy for the bombing killed 168 people. He was executed last year.
