The Colorado Senate paused Wednesday for a moment of silence to honor a Cortez soldier who was killed in Iraq by a bomb.
Private First Class George Geer was killed Monday when he was inspecting a suspicious vehicle.
His father, Harold Geer, said that when he last talked with his family his son had wanted to hear about snow in the mountains of southwestern Colorado.
The 27-year-old soldier had been scheduled to come home for a leave in February.
