The Colorado State Fair has a $553,270 deficit and needs a loan to pay its bills.
The state agriculture department's budget liaison Jon Reitan says the fair needs a $856,000 loan from the state---until revenues start to build again next spring.
Reitan is suggesting changes for the fair next year to help cut costs and boost revenue. That includes shortening the length of the fair and asking its home city and county of Pueblo to chip in more money.
Fair commissioners also hope to refinance debt and to find someone to buy naming rights on its Events Center.
