Entrance fees at Rocky Mountain National Park are going up. Beginning January 3rd, the cost for a seven-day pass will cost $20 per vehicle, an increase of $5. An annual pass will cost $35, also a $5 increase.

Under federal law, some areas operated by the National Park Service are allowed to keep 80 percent of entrance fees collected on-site.

The money helps fund resource management, science research and facility repairs.

Rocky Mountain National Park officials say the fees have added about 30 percent to the park's annual budget since 1997, and provided more than $20 million for park improvements.

The 266,000-acre park is about 50 miles northwest of Denver. It had nearly three million visitors in 2003.
