Secretary of State Donetta Davidson is listing the charitable solicitors who were naughty and nice during the past year, including some organizations that charged charities more than they raised.
Solicitors raised $96 million and handed over $53 million to charities.
Davidson says the best fund-raisers give charities 65 percent of the money raised, keeping the rest for profit and administration costs. But the latest statistics show an average of only 55 percent of the money raised actually went to charitable organizations.
Davidson says people should use caution to make sure charities are receiving the majority of their donations.
She also says just 3,100 of an estimated 7,000 solicitors have registered---as required by law.
