Handle With Care

The fight against hazardous mail has a new battleground and it's right here in Southern Colorado.

Next year, the U.S. Postal System's sorting facility in Colorado Springs will receive machinery that detects deadly substances in mail.

It's part of a $780 million Biohazard Detection System which spots dangerous agents, like anthrax, delivered through the mail.

Similar machinery was installed at the Denver mail processing and distribution center in October.

Thirty-five facilities throughout the country also use the equipment to protect 283 mail centers.
