The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has arrested the Crowley County Sheriff. Jeff Keyes faces two felony charges---one for attempting to influence a public servant and the other for hazardous waste violations.
According to court documents, two deputies told the undersheriff that Sheriff Keyes knocked over some 55 gallon barrels of chemicals during a meth lab raid.
Health department officials say the sheriff blamed the spill on the owners of the property, Buckshot Industries of Ordway.
The judge has issued a restraining order against Keyes. It bars him from any contact with the people who reported the incident.
Keyes has posted a $20,000 bond in Otero County. Crowley County Commissioners say he still holds his position as sheriff.
