Cotter Corporation has received a new state license to continue processing uranium and other ore at its Canon City mill. But the state is refusing to allow it to accept radioactive waste from other sites for disposal.
The five-year renewal license gives Cotter permission to continue its operation under the same general conditions of its previous license.
Colorado health officials last summer refused to allow Cotter to accept shipments of contaminated soil from New Jersey for storage at the Canon City operation.
The officials said then that Cotter failed to show it had adequate safety procedures in place to handle the material.
