Money and politics often go hand-in-hand. And that was especially so in this year's Senatorial race.
Post-election campaign finance reports show the race between Democrat Ken Salazar and Republican Pete Coors is the most expensive in the state's history.
The total is $17.2 million.
Salazar, who eventually beat Coors by 5 percentage points, spent $9.5 million while his challenger used about $7.7 million.
This year's totals shatter the old record of $10.5 million spent in 2002 in the Senate race between Wayne Allard and Tom Strickland.
