Colorado Senate Candidates Debate

By: Associated Press

Colorado's Senate candidates chatted about mountain snow and autumn colors before clashing over Social Security and Medicare in a debate Sunday.

Republican U.S. Senator Wayne Allard championed more personal investment choice with Social Security while his Democratic challenger, Tom Strickland opposed private accounts.

Strickland called for improvements to the Medicare system in rural care, reimbursement rates for medical services and prescription drugs. Allard says Coloradans aren't getting their fair share of Medicare dollars and the formula needs to be changed. He also supports an increase in reimbursement rates.

The race is tight and drawing national attention because it could affect control of the Senate, now led by Democrats.
