A Southern Colorado woman says she got a suspicious call from someone claiming to be with her phone company.
In this 11 Call For Action Alert, we are learning that it is a scam.
Rhonda Caraballo lives in Colorado Springs. She tells 11 News the scammer said he worked for AT&T, and told her the company was getting reports of bad service in her area. He said because of that, he wanted to give her a $30 credit on her bill.
The scammer then asked for her Social Security number and her zip code.
"I knew better because of other scams that have been going on around here. And I knew right away, no way, I'm not doing that," said Rhonda Caraballo.
Caraballo says she hung up and called AT&T to verify that it was in fact a scam.
She has a warning for anyone who might get one of these calls.
"Do not do it because you never know what people are going to do. Check it out first, check it out," said Caraballo.
A spokesperson for AT&T tells 11 News if you get one of these suspicious calls or texts, you should report it.
To let AT&T know about any suspected fraudulent phone calls or text messages, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The AT&T spokesperson also suggests filing a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission.
You can do that by calling 1-888-CALL-FCC or head to www.fcc.gov/complaints.
