DIA Arrests

(Denver-AP) -- The deputy aviation manager at Denver
International Airport says officials have long advocated that job
applicants present Social Security cards, a day after a federal
grand jury indicted 110 people for using false Social Security
numbers to obtain security badges.
None of the workers is believed to have terrorist intents, but
officials are concerned that people using false I-Ds were able to
gain access to restricted areas.
Federal law does not require applicants to present a Social
Security card before they are hired, according to Amy Bourgeron,
the deputy aviation manager at D-I-A. She says without such a law,
the airport is unable to require applicants to show those cards.
The indicted workers could face five years in prison if
convicted.
