A fire broke out around midnight Thursday at Lewis-Palmer High School in Monument.
Although authorities say starting the fire may have been a prank, those who did it may face some serious consequences, including charges of criminal mischief, or even arson.
Steve Vidano, who caught the fire on tape says, "It was a big blaze. It was probably 3 or 4 times the size of a car or an SUV."
Police still don't know who started the fire, but, they say Vidano's wife believes it may have been the people in a car they saw leaving the scene.
Vidano says, "my wife actually did see some kids run into a car and drive off."
Tom Eastburn of the Woodmoor-Monument Fire Department says Vidano's footage isn't very clear, but it could help them find the fire starters.
All that's left of the pyre now is ashes, smoke and charred pieces of wood, and of course a school's spirit, dampened.
But, lucky for the students, the pyre has been rebuilt for tonight's bonfire.
If you have any information on who may have started the fire, you're asked to call Student Crime Stoppers at 444-STOP.
