Families of Homicide Victims and Missing Persons (FOHVAMP) gathered for their 6th annual meeting Saturday.
They discussed the growing number of statewide cold cases, leaving killers on the streets, getting away with murder.
One of the members, a Southern Colorado woman, Doris Espinoza has been looking for answers as to what happened to her son, Ricky.
On June 24, 2001, Ricky called his mother from J's Motel on North Nevada at 4:30 a.m.
It would be the last time she'd ever hear from her son.
"Ricky was the baby of the family, my baby.
He was a good, good son," Doris told 11 News.
Four days later, the 37-year-old was found naked and lying in a landfill.
Detectives believe Ricky somehow ended up in dumpster near the motel.
A trash truck took him 20 miles away to a landfill in Fountain.
"The cause of death was never determined.
How he died is a difficult thing to determine... who say him last, who was he with last," Detective Jeff Nohr with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said.
"Ricky... (sighs), sometimes I feel him," Jacqueline Espinoza, Ricky's sister said.
Cops are no closer to finding out what happened to Ricky.
His mother is no closer to finding any kind of closure.
"When you lose a child, your life is gone," cried Doris.
Ricky would've turned 44 next week.
Detectives hope someone will come forward with clues about what happened to him. If you know anything about his death, call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
