Final arguments were heard Thursday in the case of an Air Force Academy football player accused of using illegal steroids.
Lawyers for Matthew Ward say the junior running back didn't know the drugs were illegal. Ward, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has said he took them only briefly when he feared he'd lose weight during survival training.
Running back coach Dean Campbell says Ward showed no signs of steroid use, such as aggression, weight gain and increased strength.
But investigators say Ward told them he knew he was using illegal steroids.
Former coach Joe Pastorello says he believes Ward admitted using steroids because investigators had told him he had.
Five cadets have been charged with illegal steroid use. Two weeks ago, linebacker Overton Spence was acquitted of similar charges.
