Hiring Freeze

The slumping economy is forcing the city to tighten it's “budget” belt. Leaders have announced a hiring freeze.

That means 20 vacant positions will now stay vacant. The only positions that will be filled are police and fire.

We've learned that the biggest change is how long it takes for you to get city services done.

Other cutbacks include a freeze on overtime pay and buying new vehicles and computers. All city departments are also being asked to cut their budgets for this year. The city is also considering cutting some services and closing some facilities.

The city is still deciding a lot of the details on the cuts, but they need to save 9.8 million before the end of the year so everything is being considered at this point.
