The Colorado Springs city attorney will ask city council for $3.4 million to settle claims from the families of victims of former police officer Joshua Carrier.

The city made the announcement Tuesday in a press release. The money will come from the general fund. The request will be made later today.

Claims against the city allege that Carrier sexually molested children while acting as a volunteer and a police officer at Horace Mann Middle School. The settlement funds will be divided between the families of several victims.

Last month, a jury found Carrier guilty on several charges relating to 19 of 22 accusers. That was his second trial, a jury was unable to reach an agreement in April.

Carrier faces life in prison when he is sentenced in February.
