Sick Mother Reportedly Behind Stephen Colbert Canceling Show

Stephen Colbert reportedly cancels show temporarily due to mother

Stephen Colbert

Legions of fans were bewildered after Stephen Colbert canceled his show this week, citing unforeseen circumstances.

Many wondered if the funnyman, known for turning the political system on its head with presidential runs and Super PACs, had another trick up his sleeve, but CBS reports Friday that the circumstances are far more sobering: his mother is ill.

Colbert, the youngest of 11, is reportedly close to his 91-year-old mother. The nature of his mother's sickness is unknown; CBS says his spokesman have provided no details.

There's no word when he'll be back on the set of his Comedy Central show. Until then, Comedy Central says they'll be airing reruns.

It's funny you mention that, Politifact did a study of news shows and how knowledgeable the viewership generally was on politics with FOX having one of the least knowledgeable viewer bases and shows like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report were at the top of the list in terms of political knowledge.

This is news. Colbert and Stewart provide better reality based coverage than Faux News and MSNBS.

I agree with your comment until you wrote that Obama is Awesome. Obama & Awesome don't belong in the same sentence. This is the first president who has a direct negative impact in my life costing me lots of money. This is about Colbert, not Obama.
