KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A national syndicate will offer replacement Doonesbury strips next week for newspapers that don't want to run a series lampooning a Texas law requiring women to have an ultrasound before getting an abortion.

Universal UClick managing editor Sue Roush said Friday that some newspapers are concerned about the comic strip's take on the law, which requires doctors to perform a sonogram as well as show and describe the image to a woman before she has an abortion.

President Lee Salem says it's not unusual for Garry Trudeau's Doonesbury strip to tackle issues not normally found on comics pages.

Several newspapers that already opt to publish Doonesbury on opinion pages say the Texas series still will run there. Others say they'll move the series from the comics to op-ed pages.
