A local artist is giving back to first responders to the Waldo Canyon Fire.

Today Mountain Shadows resident and artist Steve Weed handed out prints of his paintings to firefighters and police officers.

He created them with ashes from his neighbor's burned homes. He says the first responders are our humble heroes who have told him they're just doing their job.

"The stats showed they saved 85% of the homes in that neighborhood," says Weed. "There were a lot destroyed but they saved a lot and we're very happy for that."

Steve's "Ashes To Art" project will be auctioned off on June 24. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to rebuilding in the Mountain Shadows Community.
