One parent is upset over a new program at Manitou Springs Middle School. This is the first year the school is issuing iPads to students to take home for assignments.

The concerned dad says kids have unprotected Internet access on the iPad both on and off school grounds.

John showed 11 News how easy it is to get onto an unprotected Internet browser from his daughter's school-issued iPad. He worries about what these students will be able to access without any adult supervision.

"They can get an entire Internet life, an entire online presence that their parents and others are completely unaware of. They can be in chat rooms with predators," said John.

John believes the school could be in violation of the Children's Internet Protection Act, which requires schools to implement the necessary measures to protect kids from potentially harmful online content.

He tells 11 News the iPad is a great tool, and he appreciates the school using this new technology. He just wants to see the proper safety measures in place.

11 News has put calls into the Manitou Springs School District to get their take on the issue. We will let you know what we find out.
