NEW YORK (AP) -- Kodak will close its online-photo service on July 2 after a federal bankruptcy judge approved a $23.8 million sale of the business to Shutterfly.
Shutterfly Inc. emerged last month as the sole bidder for Eastman Kodak Co.'s Kodak Gallery business. The judge approved the sale last week. Kodak, which filed for bankruptcy protection in January, is selling it to generate cash and to narrow its focus.
In an email to Kodak Gallery users on Monday, the company said people who do not want their photos transferred will have to inform the Kodak by May 28. Shutterfly will contact users in June on how to link a Kodak Gallery account with one on Shutterfly. After photos are transferred in July, they will no longer be accessible on Kodak Gallery.
