The number of West Nile cases in Colorado is growing, 11 News has confirmed that more than 50 people in Colorado are infected with the virus.
The Center for Disease Control says 2012 is the worst year on record for the West Nile virus since 2003. The State Health Department is issuing a warning to protect yourself against mosquito bites.
We have just one case so far in El Paso County. That person did not die. The two deaths in Colorado this year were reported out of Montrose County, that’s on the Western Slope.
While it can be tough to always avoid mosquitoes, health experts say dawn and dusk are when they are most active, so avoid going outside during those times.
