Three skunks found in Pueblo have tested positive for rabies, according to the Pueblo Health Department. They are the first skunks to test positive in Pueblo County this year.
The skunks were found at these locations:
The Health Department says no humans came into contact with the rabid skunks. Pets in the areas were up-to-date with their vaccines.
It is unusual for skunks to be out during the day, the health department says. If someone does see a skunk during the day, or otherwise acting abnormally, it is important to report the animal to the
U.S. Department of Agricultures’ local Wildlife Specialist, 719-250-9035.
For any other questions or concerns contact Pueblo Animal Services by calling 719-544-3005.
Everyone is also reminded to check that their pets’ vaccinations are current.
