Water quality scientists are asking residents with wells in eastern El Paso County to participate in water sampling that can be used to set a baseline for groundwater safety.

The survey is being conducted by the El Paso County Groundwater Quality Study Committee in cooperation with the U. S. Geological Survey. They’re specifically looking for wells pumping from the shallow alluvial aquifer in the Upper Black Squirrel Creek basin area.

The samples will be selected this summer and tested during 2013. It will be done with no cost to the well owners.

Anyone interested in participating is asked to contact Chris Brown of the USGS with your name, phone number, and street address at 719-544-7155, Extension 111, or e-mail him at crbrown@usgs.gov.
